HIMpossible (more than a cliche)

This is a long post. It is worth the read (if I say so myself). However, if you want the meat of it all, skip to the bottom (I won’t be offended, although I don’t recommend it).

It sounds like one of those corny Christian cliches: HIMpossible. It’s like a bad-pun-Dad-joke with a spiritual twist. A quaint and cheesy way to say that only God can do something about a situation in our life.

Yet, there is an exciting truth behind it. That exciting truth is that God wants to do things in our lives that are explainable only as, “Look at what God has done!” Things that are so incredible that He alone gets the credit and the glory for it.

Sometimes when a situation like that comes into our lives, it comes disguised as a crisis. Years ago we had some friends going to the missions field. As they were preparing to hit the mission field they got a surprise message from their missions agency- “BTW, you need to raise $20,000 in the next few weeks.” Crisis! When we brought this before the Lord, we thanked Him for the situation. We thanked Him for bringing a task so huge that when it happened there would be no way any one but God would get the glory for it happening. And it did happen. And God alone received the glory for it. It was disguised as a crisis, but in reality it was an opportunity for God to receive the glory He so richly deserves!

We have the blessing of being in a situation like that now. And when I say it is a blessing I am not just using “Christian-ese” or paying obligatory lip service so I can appear super-spiritual. It truly is a blessing to have an opportunity presented to us to see God glorified as the only One who could come through in such a huge way!

So, what is our HIMpossible situation?

We have sold our house and will be closing on it this week (that alone is a praise). However, due to circumstances outside of the control of dear and generous friends, the housing solution we had in place that made it possible to sell our house during a favorable market and still have a place to live until we get to Life Action has fallen through. We put in our contract for selling the house that we would have the option to rent the house for the month of November. That means, we will still be in our house through the end of November. That is important- remember: November!

We have had some other friends step up and offer to provide us a place a to stay. So it isn’t that we would be homeless after that. But as Carra and I have talked about it and prayed about it, we have come to a different solution.

I say with shame, it is something Carra was all about from the very beginning of our Life Action journey, but I was being more “realistic” about it. From the beginning she was praying that we would be at full support this November. I, on the other hand, being more “realistic,” placed us there around May of 2023. Now, we are in a position that seems custom made by God to say that it was always supposed to be November. There are times when being “realistic” is just an excuse for not trusting that God will do God-sized things. And I honestly believe that is what my being “realistic” was about this time. Putting the target date in May was me reducing support raising to a human-based, human-fulfilled endeavor. “One hundred percent support by November? Not real doable. Having 100% support by May? Oh, yeah, totally doable.” Doable by whom? By me of course! That was my thinking. May God forgive my self-sufficiency!

So, our HIMpossible? We are praying and trusting God for 100% support by the end of November. All this long post to say that.

Would you pray with us to this end? We have an overwhelming desire to see God do something so big that He alone receives the credit and the glory. This really isn’t simply about us wanting to be at full support. It is about getting there in a way that is God-sized not man-sized. We are so excited to see what God is going to do!

Our support goal is $6,000 per month. We presently are at 26%, so we have another 74% to go by the end of November. If a family is able to support us at $60 dollars a month that is a full 1%. One percent may not sound like a lot, but those 1%s add up!

Please consider being a part of God’s answer to this God-sized prayer through your financial support. God is our provider, yet He chooses to use people as His tools for His provision.
